![]() We couldn't believe it! We drove all the way here only to be informed, "Sorry! We can't help you new customers today because we don't know how to provide decent customer service!" (I'm paraphrasing here) In conclusion: AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! It's May, and summer season is already starting. The only problem is, they had no courses available that day! At this point, we were FURIOUS! But we tried to hide our extreme displeasure, so we nodded and left. He did offer us a 3-hour handgun course, which we would have been more than happy to take, if it meant getting some time on the range. Ridiculous! Even worse, he spoke down to us like we were little kids who shouldn't be around firearms at all. After going to the back of the store for a few minutes, he came back to tell us in effect that no instructors were available that day! And only ONE range safety officer was on staff that day too. But when we told him we were from New Jersey and wanted to try out their range, a puzzled look came over his face. WRONG! Another employee, a bearded fellow, came up to help us. We did so with the FALSE impression that we would soon be enjoying our first shooting experience. But it was a totally different story when we arrived there! The first employee, a young lady, was pleasant she told us to complete the double-sided waiver forms and watch the 8-minute safety video. The lady on the phone was pleasant and assured us that it would be no problem in other words, they would take care of us. Before we left, we called the Colonial Shooting Academy in advance to be absolutely sure that out-of-state visitors like us could try out their services (under proper supervision of course). ![]() Apparently you need to read the one- and two-star reviews to get the real picture. So we decided, why not stop by the Colonial Shooting Academy before going back home? We thought we would have a great time because of all the four- and five-star reviews on Tripadvisor. We spent 8 hours driving all the way from New Jersey to Virginia Beach to shoot at this range, only to be treated like idiots! This past Monday was our last day in town. He is a credit to this business and they need more staff like him! Thank you Tony K for making our day so special. We had the most fabulous hour on the range- Tony was professional, informative and fun. ![]() Then we approached the counter to pay for range time and were informed (none too pleasantly) that since we were first time shooters- we could not shoot today as there were no instructors in store - disappointment is not the word!! We browsed in the shop and selected a tee-shirt and approached a different counter to pay- it was here we were served by Tony K- he asked if we had been on the range and I explained no instructors were available- he very kindly volunteered to take us onto the range. We signed all the necessary forms and waivers, provided photo ID and watched a very informative 8 minute safety video. ![]() The office phoned CSA to check tourists could shoot and we were told to go straight down. We were visiting from Ireland and found a flyer for colonial shooting academy (CSA) in the tourist information office. ![]()
